As each year comes to a close, we all have our little rituals to kick off the new one. One of mine is resetting* the play count on my iTunes library after taking a look at what my most played songs were from the past year.

This year I thought I’d do something different and share my most played song of year, Underworld, “Two Months Off” from, A Hundred Days Off.

Album after album, UK duo Underworld remains one of the most musically consistent bands in a genre whose trends are constantly changing and tends to be over-saturated with one-hit-wonders.

The build up of each instrumental track takes command over their often subtle, enigmatic lyrics, setting them apart from most who tend to rely on vocal loops. I stumbled onto “Two Months Off” while digitizing my collection at the end of last year and it quickly became one of my favorite Underworld singles of all time, just after “Born Slippy NUXX,” an anthemic, heart-pounding electronic track featured in Trainspotting.

While the video for “Two Months Off” isn’t the most visually stunning and nearly 4 minutes of the best instrumental portions of the track are missing, it perfectly captures the essence of the band’s energy…who’ve been going strong since 1993.
