TBS = Team Conan

TBS' First Conan Campaign

It’s that time of year when Academy of Television Arts and Sciences members, aka Emmy voters, begin the process of choosing who will nab top honors come the big night (8/29). Nominations ballots are out with a due date of June 21 and nominees will be announced July 8.

Enter last year’s biggest TV stories, one-time Emmy Host Conan O’Brien v. NBC Universal. The well-documented end of O’Brien’s run on The Tonight Show, the beginning of #TeamConan, and incredible coup by TBS for the host’s return to late-night, left one of TV’s brightest stars without NBCU to support his bid for an Emmy.

Although not slated to return to the late-night fold until November, TBS stepped up to the plate launching a For Your Consideration trade campaign that promotes O’Brien for an Emmy and not-so-subtly points to his incredibly funny, one million+ strong Twitter account, @ConanOBrien.

Late Night with Conan O'Brien

It’s not as though O’Brien needs another Emmy to add to his 17  previous wins or that a six-month run on The Tonight Show truly earned  one this year. It’s what’s implied by the TBS-driven FYC ad that got our  attention and makes the campaign so brilliant – voters and the  entertainment industry alike are reminded that Conan O’Brien can still  win an Emmy for The Tonight Show on NBC although he’s now part of the  TBS family, he’s on Twitter doing some great (free) promotion, and they  are a proud part of #TeamConan.

Whether he walks away with an award or not come Emmy night is really of no matter. TBS and Conan O’Brien’s new late-night show are already the clear winners where it counts most – forward-thinking, ‘socially-conscious,’ TV-marketing.
