The Television Critics Association (TCA) is made up of 200 renowned journalists covering entertainment programming across broadcast and cable networks. They’re the taste-makers from across media that write about what we’ll be watching (or not watching) on TV. The group meets twice a year for the TCA Press Tour where presentations are made showcasing each network’s programming slates via executive panels, screenings and some pretty incredible parties.

It’s that time of year when Academy of Television Arts and Sciences members, aka Emmy voters, begin the process of choosing who will nab top honors come the big night (8/29). Nominations ballots are out with a due date of June 21 and nominees will be announced July 8. Enter last year’s biggest TV stories, one-time Emmy Host Conan O’Brien v. NBC Universal. The well-documented end of O’Brien’s run on The Tonight Show, the beginning of #TeamConan, and incredible coup by TBS for the host’s return to late-night, left one of TV’s brightest stars without NBCU to support his bid for an Emmy.

As the WGA writer’s strike hits the one month mark, let’s take a quick look at the impacted TV skeds and their digital distribution counterparts. Just as both sides resumed talks earlier this week, Starcom released a report estimating that the ad revenue generated from online video doubled from ’06 and could reach over $1 billion dollars. Not surprisingly, most of it went to the networks. The hot button topic of the strike? The lack of contract language in place for digital distribution – streaming or download. Judge for yourselves. NBC has partnered with Netflix and is offering subscribers a chance to see the premiere eps of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Kidnapped, two of our three fave new series on the peacock net.
